Rufus Wilson, Founder
Pastor Rufus Wilson founded the Antioch
Missionary Baptist Church in 1935. A remarkably strong man of God,
Pastor Wilson led the church for 17 years. Known as a powerfully
anointed preacher, teacher, and healer, his well known catch phrase
was “God is able.” After completing his assignment at Antioch, he
went on to establish the Mt. Sinai Baptist Church in San Antonio,
where he served until his death.
 Pastor John Joseph Rector, Sr.,
D.D.
The son
of the celebrated preacher and song writer, Rev. W.I. Rector, Pastor
John Joseph Rector, Sr. was called to pastor the Antioch Missionary
Baptist Church when he was only 22 years old. Blessed with a
powerful singing voice, tremendous biblical knowledge, and
phenomenally warm personality, Pastor Rector led Antioch for almost
41 years. Under his leadership, the church greatly expanded its
ministries and membership. In 1974, the construction of a modern,
beautiful, and spacious sanctuary was completed under Pastor
Rector’s watchful eye. Pastor Rector’s tremendous gifts in ministry
and leadership gained national attention and his prowess in ministry
is still talked about to this day. As his health failed, he had the
foresight to bring in a young seminarian, Rev. E. Thurman Walker, as
his youth minister in 1987. When Pastor Rector died in 1993, Rev.
Walker, who at that time was serving as Co-pastor, became Senior
Pastor in a seamless leadership transition.

Born in San Antonio, TX, Pastor E. Thurman
Walker received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Colorado College.
While pursuing a promising career in Accounting, Pastor Walker
answered the call to preach while serving under Pastor James H.
McMearn in Colorado Springs, CO. He went on to earn the Masters of
Divinity Degree from the Interdenominational Theological Center,
Morehouse School of Religion, in Atlanta, GA. Before he graduated,
he was identified through the Holy Spirit and by Pastor Rector to
join the staff of the Antioch Missionary Baptist Church as the Youth
Minister. Pastor Walker’s charismatic personality, remarkably
poignant preaching ability, and keen intellect quickly established
him as a powerful force throughout San Antonio and the nation. He
went on to become the Assistant Pastor, and then Co-Pastor of
Antioch while earning the Doctor of
 Ministry Degree from United
Theological Seminary in Dayton, OH. Under Pastor Walker, Antioch’s
membership doubled and the budget tripled. He also founded The
Antioch Community Transformation Network, the Community of Churches
for Social Action, and the Antioch Christian Academy. Under his
leadership, the 4 Million dollar Antioch Sports Complex was
completed. The Lord called Pastor Walker home in October 2009.
Pastor Kenneth R. Kemp, M.D.
Pastor Kenneth Kemp is a medical doctor who was
called into the ministry in 1991. He served under Pastor Walker as
Assistant Pastor for five years. In September 2009, he was selected
as Co-Pastor of Antioch and by the move of the Holy Spirit; he
became Senior Pastor upon Pastor Walker’s death in October 2009 in
another seamless leadership transition.
